Uittomies

All Kraatteri Resort apartments are located at Nykälänniemi on the shores of Lappajärvi, and each has been named after a place or story connected to the Kraatterijärvi Geopark area.

Uittomies is a two-person chalet apartment where a holiday begins quietly by the water. The views from the balcony bring the lake and surrounding nature into everyday life at the apartment, and the atmosphere is calm from the very start.

A Story of the Lake and Labour

The chalet's name was inspired by the Uittomieskämppä — the Log Floaters' Cabin — located at Jokisuunlahti in Evijärvi, built as a tribute to the tradition of log floating and to the men who carried out this demanding and physically gruelling work. The Ähtävänjoki river, which flows through the lake district, has for centuries served as a vital connection to the sea for local residents — timber was floated along the river and tar was transported to the coast. Completed in 2017, the Uittomieskämppä is a living gathering place that breathes the log-floating culture of times gone by. Log-floating demonstrations are held in the area, and the cabin can also be booked as a venue for various events and as a destination for group visits.

The Legacy of the Riverbank

The Uittomies chalet continues this heritage in its own way. It does not tell the story of the hardships of labour, but rather serves as a reminder of the significance of the lake and the river as part of the life of this region. Staying in Uittomies brings the calm presence of water and a landscape where everyday life and history have always run side by side to the heart of your holiday.

Part of Kraatteri Resort's Story-Driven Experience

Uittomies is part of Kraatteri Resort's collection of chalet apartments, where a stay is more than just a place to sleep. Each apartment tells its own story from the Kraatterijärvi Geopark area and invites guests to discover the meteorite-shaped landscape at their own pace.

Staying in Uittomies is a moment by the water. A place where history, movement, and the rhythm of nature have flowed side by side for generations.
